Overview

This optical modulator is a Ti:LiNbO3 DP-QPSK Single-Drive Mach-Zehnder modulator with
modulation speed of up to 64Gbaud. This modulator comprises 3dB coupler, two QPSK
modulators, polarization rotator followed by the polarization beam combiner and the built-in
monitor PD chips for automatic bias control (ABC) for the compensation system of DC-drift and
other phenomena. Detailed structure and the function block diagram are shown in the appendix

CA-FTM7992HM 64 Gbaud DP-QPSK Lithium Niobate Modulator Overview

The CA-FTM7992HM is a single-drive Mach-Zehnder optical modulator built on titanium-diffused lithium niobate technology. Its integrated DP-QPSK structure combines two QPSK modulators with a polarization rotator and polarization beam combiner. Built-in monitor photodiodes support automatic bias control to compensate for DC drift. This architecture brings the modulation and polarization functions together in one component for optical transmission development. The listed modulation speed is up to 64 Gbaud; review the specification tab and functional diagram when selecting the associated driver and bias-control arrangement.

Product selection questions

What is the CA-FTM7992HM used for?

The CA-FTM7992HM is a lithium-niobate optical modulator for DP-QPSK modulation at up to 64 Gbaud. It combines two QPSK modulators, a polarization rotator and a polarization beam combiner in one component.

Does this modulator generate its own laser light?

No. This is an optical modulation component, not a laser source. Select the external optical source, driver and bias-control arrangement using the wavelength, optical-input and electrical limits in the datasheet.

Does an integrated monitor photodiode mean the bias controller is included?

The built-in monitor photodiodes support automatic bias control. They are not a statement that a complete external bias controller or driver is included; confirm the required control arrangement when requesting a quotation.

How should I compare it with the 20/40 GHz analog modulators?

Start with the modulation requirement. CA-FTM7992HM is a DP-QPSK modulator specified in Gbaud, while the CA-AM20-OO / CA-AM40-OO family is intended for analog intensity modulation. These are different selection criteria, not interchangeable performance ratings.
